Saturday SmokeoutFebruary 3, 2013 - Author: Ashlee - 1 Comment
Everyone having a good weekend so far? We’ve had a fun filled weekend with friends so far, and rumor has it that the fun will continue today. I keep hearing that there’s some big football game on today?
So, yesterday we had quite the little get together! Earlier in the week the hubs decided he wanted to have some friends over to cook in the smoker and play yard games. As soon as I looked at the weather forecast, I was on board! It was a perfect sunny day to hang out in the backyard.
Work It Out
We woke up early to clean up the house and get our workouts in before our company arrived. I had been wanting to try The Fitnessista’s Winter Shapeup Workout #1 because it looked so fun and incorporated a few things that were new to me. When I got to the gym and realized the classroom was empty, I quickly snagged it and got to work!
5 minute jump rope & air squat warm-up and then:
2 rounds + 15 minutes HIIT. It was a killer 48 minute Saturday morning workout! And today, my glutes and hamstrings are tellin’ me it was a good one. It hurt a little to step out of bed!
Later in the afternoon once the chores were taken care of, I poured myself a cocktail and hung out in the backyard with everyone. (Dry white wine, seltzer water, limes – perfect low calorie, warm weather cocktail!)
Perfect patio weather!
The guys played horseshoes, smoked meat & fried fish.
The girls chatted & played frisbee golf.
I’m not sure what this game is really called, but it involves trying to knock a bottle off of a pole with a frisbee. Very fun! Until the bottle falls off and knocks you straight on the top of the head. Ouch!
Eventually the food was ready, and everyone dug in! To go along with the smoked chicken & fish, I made a simple cesar salad, rolls, mashed potatoes
I might be biased, but the potatoes and salad were realllly yummy! I even went back for seconds. Mmm!
It might have been tank top weather during the day, but it got cold out quickly! One way to solve that…
Light the fire pit, and huddle around!
The fun continued well after midnight!
And you can bet there were some shenanigans involved!
That would be our friend Brent. In our oven. I told him that I was going to turn around and give him 10 seconds to do something funny, and when I turned back around I was going to snap a picture. This is what I found when I spun around to get an impromptu funny pic. Ha!
Throughout the day and night we had around 40 people over. I’m pretty sure we need a bigger house at this point! Friends from 3 to 63, co-workers, family, old friends, new friends! It was a great day with great friends! Looking forward to the next one! And next time I definitely won’t be cleaning floors until after it’s over
