Honda Dio vs Yamaha Fascino – Who will Lead the Chart

Honda and Yamaha had very contrasting journeys in the Indian two-wheeler segment. While Yamaha predominately announced its arrival in the bike segment, Honda has been providing the Indian customers with a number of high-profile, best-selling products such as the Activa and Aviator. Yamaha also recently decided to enter the gearless scooter range to challenge the top leaders in the segment. Today, we will be having a look at the latest offering from these companies, Yamaha Fascino and the Honda Dio.

Designs and Looks

The looks and design on the Honda Dio looks stale and uninspiring largely due to the fact that the design has been used predominately by a number of manufacturers before. The handlebar is missing the front headlights which are placed beneath it. On the other side, the looks on the Fascino looks sleek and unique. The outer design frame of the scooter is made out of highly rigid under bone and the curves looks from the front to the back looks smooth and great. You can look at the to get a better look of the new and unique design on the Fascino.

Engine

The Yamaha Fascino is powered by an 113cc air-cooled engine which is larger than the air-cooled, 109.2cc engine on the Dio. Surprisingly though, the smaller engine on the Dio is still able to generate a power output of 8 BHP which is too much greater than the 7 BHP generated on the Fascino. The torque on the Dio is 8.77 Nm which is also larger than the 8.1 Nm on the Yamaha Fascino.

Winner: Honda Dio

Wheels and Tires

It comes as no surprise that both the Dio and Fascino share the same specification on the tires and wheels front as most of the automatic scooters in this segment also have the same setup as them. They both are fitted with a pair of 10-inches sheet metal wheels and 90/100-10 tubeless tires for added road grip.

Brakes

For added safety and security, the Yamaha Fascino is fitted with a pair of 130mm drum brakes on its scooter, the exact same specifications which are also equipped on the Honda Dio. It is probably very disappointing fact that none of them have gone for a front disc brake while is the norm these days in the price segment.

Transmission and Suspension

The Honda Dio uses an automatic clutch system for the whereas the Fascino is equipped with a Dry, Centrifugal suspension system.

On the suspension front, Honda Dio is equipped with spring loaded hydraulic type suspension on both the sides whereas the Fascino uses a telescopic fork suspension unit on the front end and a unit swing hydraulic suspension with shock absorber on the rear end.

Winner: Yamaha Fascino

Fuel Consumption

The Honda Dio is backed by the Honda Eco Technology and is fitted with a 5.3 Liter fuel tank in comparison to the 5.2 Liter fuel tank on the Fascino. Even though, the fuel tank capacity difference is negligible, the Yamaha Fascino is able to provide a far better fuel mileage at 66kmpl when compared to the 55kmpl fuel mileage offered by the Honda Dio. The overall riding range for the Yamaha is around 343 km whereas the Honda Dio is only able to 294 km on a single full fuel tank.

The Last Words

The Yamaha Fascino is available in India at an on-road price of Rs 56,881 whereas the Dio is available for a lesser amount of Rs 51,892 (on-road price). Clearly, the Yamaha Fascino takes the upper-hand against the Honda Dio in terms of looks as evident from Yamaha Fascino images, in fuel consumption and suspension. However, the Dio manages to pip the Fascino in the engine performance.
